Social Games for Tweens, Teens, and Adults

Many of the electronic gadgets that are so popular this year are great for individual enjoyment (such as iPod’s and handheld video games like Nintendo DS) however, we think everyone should have some social games on their Christmas list.

We asked Hannah, age 10, what games she liked to play with her friends.  Hannah was recently given the new Pokemon Champion Island game. She played it with her friend Meredith and also with her Mom.  Hannah, “I started getting into Pokemon last year when my friends from school were all talking about Pokemon characters. Pokemon is a popular show on the Cartoon Network. This game is fun and you have to know your Pokemon characters to play it. My Mom wasn’t so good at it – ha!  You move through different levels in the game earning gem badges along the way. It is fun to play.”  Hannah mentioned that she and her friends also like to play Apples to Apples.  There are several versions including a Junior 9+ version and for adults, the Apples to Apples Party Box Edition.

We looked at walmart.com to find the top games for teens.  The Deal or No Deal DVD Game was at the top of the list and the folks that reviewed it were 14 – 18.  Most liked it but one did say that it can get boring.  Personally, I think it’s fun sometimes to play games that aren’t overly challenging.  Another popular game for this age group is the Smart Ass Board Games.  Its a trivia game about people, places and things and requires no specific knowledge base, so even if you’re a “dumb ass” you can win!

We found a list of top games for the year on about.com and one of their top games was Carnium Wow! for adults. This game also gets 5 stars at Amazon.  A reviewer says, “This game is a smash at a party! We played and laughed for hours!”

We can’t talk about games without mentioning the new Electronic Monopoly game.  Monopoly was updated last year with a Here and Now version that flew off the shelves.  This same great version added electronic banking this year and it too is very hard to find.  Have patience, we think it will be back in stock soon.
